Sayamaike Park was developed as an urban park in 2002 around Sayamaike Pond, Japan’s oldest dam-style reservoir, built in the early 7th century. Rich in waterside nature, the park is a great place to observe various wild birds throughout the seasons.

Inside the park is the Osaka Prefectural Sayamaike Museum, a Sayamaike Dam Site Museum designed by world-renowned architect Tadao Ando, which preserves and displays civil engineering heritage. Sayamaike Park has also been selected as one of Japan’s Top 100 Historical Parks, not only for the historical and cultural value of its resources, but also because it uses these resources to create outstanding scenery and an inviting environment, is loved by the local community, and serves as a hub for regional revitalization.

Approx. 1,300 cherry trees are planted here, including the early-blooming Koshinohigan variety, and the park draws many cherry blossom viewers in spring. Every year during cherry blossom season, from late March to early April, the Sakura Festival: Spring is held, and the cherry trees along the north embankment of Sayamaike Pond are illuminated from sunset to 10:00 pm, creating a magical view.

※Parking is limited, and heavy crowds are expected when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom. Please use public transportation to reach the venue.
※Please do not park on the street or at nearby shops.
※The illumination period may change or be canceled depending on blooming conditions, weather, and other factors.
