Imabari Murakami Kaizoku Museum

Located on Oshima Island in Imabari, Ehime Prefecture, this museum introduces the history and culture of the Murakami Kaizoku, who were described as Japan's greatest pirates. Focusing on the Noshima Murakami clan, visitors can learn about their activities in the Seto Inland Sea during the Sengoku period through valuable historical documents, armor, weapons, and archaeological artifacts.

The museum's permanent exhibition rooms explore the ruins of Noshima Castle, surrounded by powerful tidal currents, the exploits of the pirates, and details of their daily life and culture revealed through archaeological excavations. Also on display are battle surcoats, armor, arts and crafts, and other items passed down through the Noshima Murakami family, offering insight into the activities of maritime forces during the Sengoku period.

There are also plenty of interactive exhibits for visitors of all ages, including opportunities to try on armor and kosode robes, as well as a VR experience of the Sengoku period. From the observation room and deck on the third floor, visitors can take in panoramic views of the Seto Inland Sea, its many islands, and the ruins of Noshima Castle, once the Murakami Kaizoku's stronghold.
