Beppu Bay Service Area

This service area offers panoramic views of Beppu Bay from an elevation of 380 meters. Located on the Higashi-Kyushu Expressway, Beppu Bay Service Area was designed by Sanso Murata, a ryokan in Yufuin. A walkway lined with seasonal flowers connects the upbound and downbound sides, allowing visitors to move between them for dining and shopping.

Genrinkan, the building closest to the parking lot on each side, houses a food court and shop. Visitors can enjoy meals, coffee, and sweets on the terrace while overlooking Beppu Bay. The shopping area carries souvenirs from Oita, Beppu, and Yufuin, including chocolates delivered from Yufuin. The food court serves Oita specialties such as toriten chicken tempura and ryukyu rice bowls, a local dish. Two restaurants stand along the walkway. Murata Fusho-an, housed in a relocated and restored building over 100 years old, serves house-made soba noodles, tempura, and other dishes. Artegio Dining offers authentic pizzas baked in a custom-made stone oven, with takeout also available.

Every June, 12 varieties of English roses grown by the staff reach peak bloom and can be viewed while strolling around the grounds. In addition to a dog run, the restaurants along the walkway have terrace seating where guests can dine with their pets. With a smart interchange and EV fast-charging stations, this service area offers a relaxing place to take a break while appreciating the scenery and local cuisine.
