It's super easy to get here—just a 5-minute walk from Fuchu Station on the Keio Line. The path to the shrine is lined with famous zelkova trees, and right next to Japan's largest granite torii gate, there's a zelkova that's about 400 years old—the oldest one around.

Known as one of Tokyo's five major shrines, it has over 2,000 years of history. In September, there's a chestnut festival with lanterns lit up inside the shrine, creating a fantastic atmosphere.

Okunitama Shrine is located in Fuchu, Tokyo, and it's a really old shrine. A few years ago, I saw the Kurayami Festival held every May 5th—the huge event left a deep impression on me. It's lively not just during New Year's, but even on regular days there's a lot to see. Definitely worth a visit.

I happened to visit during Shichi-Go-San, a special festival for Japanese kids. The children dressed in kimonos looked absolutely adorable.

Most torii gates at Japanese shrines are made of wood, bronze, stone, or concrete, but the one here is really unique—it's made of granite! There are also lots of other shrines on the grounds, including ones for the sake god and for safe childbirth, among others.

This place is definitely a center of faith for locals. The grounds are pretty spacious, and walking in from the big torii gate along the main path, you can really feel the shrine's solemn atmosphere. The dragon carving on the purification fountain is super detailed.

Located in Fuchu City, this place has a really long history dating back to ancient Musashi Province. When I visited, it wasn't crowded at all—it's not really a touristy spot. Most people who come here seem very sincere about their prayers.

Walk along the path lined with giant trees and you'll pass through the Suijin Gate, which is meant to keep out evil spirits.
Before you pray, make sure to wash your hands at the purification fountain in front!
