Taking the elevator down to see the waterfall really lets you feel the full power of the falls up close.

When I visited, the whole area was covered in thick fog. It gave the place a mysterious, dreamy feel.

Take the elevator down to the observation deck for a close-up view of the falls. The negative ions make the air feel so fresh. On your way back, grab a freshly grilled sweetfish—it's cheap and smells amazing.

We paid to take the elevator to see the waterfall. This was one of our favorite spots in Nikko. You get a beautiful view from the platform, and you might get a little wet from the spray, but it's just a bit. There's a souvenir shop on the platform, and some food stalls near the ticket gate. It's conveniently located about a 5–10 minute walk from the Chuzenji bus stop.
