A shopping paradise you absolutely can’t miss〜 Every time I come to Ueno Station, I can’t resist stopping by to browse and soak up the lively, energetic atmosphere. The fruit stands offer a wide selection at very reasonable prices. If you visit in the summer, for example, you can buy sweet, juicy peaches.
Ueno is also a major battleground for drugstores! Prices vary from store to store, so if you compare prices, you can often find a bargain. OS Drug is especially popular with tourists. The displays are somewhat cluttered and the aisles are narrow, but that “treasure-hunting” feeling is exactly what makes browsing so much fun. One unusual thing is that the store only accepts cash and does not offer tax-free shopping. Even so, it is still packed every day with tourists shopping, which shows just how popular it is!
Ameyoko Shopping Street is located near Ueno Station in Tokyo and is one of the city's most popular traditional shopping streets, with a lively and vibrant local atmosphere. The street is lined with all kinds of food, seafood, fruit, snacks, drugstores, clothing stores, and unique little shops, offering a wide variety of goods at affordable prices. It's a popular place for travelers to shop and hunt for bargains. As you stroll through the area, you can try fresh seafood rice bowls, grilled skewers, takoyaki, and various Japanese snacks while experiencing the strong sense of local life.
If you love shopping, you definitely have to come to this area. Ameyoko has that lively market atmosphere, and you can do some serious shopping at Takeya. A whole afternoon goes by in no time.

And wow, everyone’s saying OS is really cheap.
Someone on Threads said the OS in Asakusa was cheaper, but Ueno was actually cheaper.
I was so annoyed.
On my last day, I dragged my suitcase all the way to Asakusa just to buy it, and then came to Ueno to look around.
Turns out the thing I wanted was cheaper in Ueno.
I came in thinking I was going to prove I got a good deal, but instead I was just super annoyed. Really frustrating.
And I even stocked up. The staff said it was okay!
Honestly, I’d just tell everyone to go with whatever’s convenient.
You don’t need to keep checking what other people say.
But then if you don’t go, you worry you’ll regret it.
Such an annoying feeling.
Maybe people will think I’m being cheap, but I’m still young haha, so of course I want to save a little money.
Is that an excuse? Yeah, totally.
But yeah, Ameyoko is actually pretty fun to shop around.
There are lots of drugstores, capsule toy machines, and a really big Uniqlo.
It’s kind of an important hub too.
Still, it somehow felt just a tiny bit past its prime. I don’t know why, it just didn’t feel quite as lively as I expected.
Whether you're looking for affordable deals or want to experience the vibe of a traditional Japanese market, Ameyoko is a spot you definitely shouldn't miss.
This was my first solo trip, and I came here because it's such a great place to shop and the prices are really reasonable. A lot of things are even cheaper than in Taiwan!
Visited again after the pandemic and found lots of unique street food and souvenirs. The yen is really cheap now, so shopping was extra fun! 😃
Ameyoko has awesome food like tekka don, Meat Oyama, and takoyaki. Plus, there are super cheap drugstores and must-buy snacks at Futaki no Kashi & Shimura Store! 👍
Ameyoko in Ueno is seriously the best place for shopping! It's like a paradise for affordable goods—some stuff is even cheaper than in Taiwan!
