I really enjoy strolling through the traditional Takayama Old Town. There are so many different things to buy. The only downside is that there aren't enough public restrooms—I hope that gets improved.

If you're in Takayama, you absolutely can't miss the Hida beef sushi. Even if there's a long line, it's totally worth it. It just melts in your mouth—so delicious!

The old town has traditional shops and little stores selling all kinds of goods—these are exactly the kinds of places I love exploring.

Besides the old town, there's also the Takayama Jinya nearby. It used to be the local government office and even had a jail during the Edo period. You can visit for free.

The old town streets are really well preserved. There's a historic miso shop where you can try freshly made miso soup. It was so comforting on a cold day. They have both red and white miso, and the soup I tried was a mix of both. The flavor was great and not too salty.
