Nebuta Museum WA RASSE is a well-known tourist museum in the Aomori Bay area of Japan, dedicated to showcasing the Aomori Nebuta Festival, one of the three major festivals of Japan's Tohoku region.
As soon as you arrive at Aomori Station (Aomori Port), you'll be stunned by the museum's exterior, wrapped in deep-red steel louvers. The highly distinctive, modern architecture is very eye-catching! It's also worth going inside to explore!

Huge Nebuta lantern floats that have appeared in the actual festival are displayed here year-round, allowing visitors who miss the festival from August 2 to 7 to immerse themselves in its powerful atmosphere at any time of year.

When I arrived at Nebuta Museum Wa Rasse in Aomori, I was immediately blown away by the enormous, brightly colored Nebuta floats! Each one is incredibly impressive, with exquisitely crafted facial expressions, costumes, and details. Seeing them up close is truly spectacular. With the lively festival music playing, it feels like you’re about to join everyone in a parade through the streets! Besides viewing the large floats, you can learn about the history and craftsmanship of the Nebuta Festival and even try drumming and other interactive festival activities, making the experience feel more engaging. Even if you don’t visit during the festival, you can still experience the charm of Aomori’s traditional culture. It’s definitely an attraction worth visiting!

Nebuta Museum Wa Rasse, right next to Aomori Station, has a complete collection of the giant Nebuta lantern floats that have appeared in past festivals. The dazzling exhibits, along with videos and interactive experiences, gave me a deeper understanding of this cultural celebration with 300 years of history. Even if you’ve never actually attended the festival, Wa Rasse is a great place to satisfy your curiosity all at once.
The 2026 Taiwan Chiayi Lantern Festival also invited Wa Rasse to take part. Seeing those vivid, towering character lanterns reminded me of my fun experience in Aomori.

I happened to catch a live performance event. Even though I couldn’t join the festival myself, the on-site exhibits and interactive performances still let me feel the festival’s lively vibe.

The lighting, music, and those huge Nebuta lantern floats right in front of you make it feel like you’re actually there.
