If you come to Ise, be sure to make time to walk around here. You can find all kinds of local foods, including Matsusaka beef, Ise udon, and the main Akafuku store. Sitting by the Isuzu River, cooling off while drinking tea and eating wagashi, is truly enjoyable. The shopping street also has various souvenir shops, local sake breweries, and many other products with distinctive local character.

Okage Yokocho recreates the atmosphere of the Edo period and brings together some of the most iconic local foods from Ise and Mie Prefecture. As soon as you enter, it feels like stepping back into an old Japanese street, with wooden buildings and traditional shops one after another, filling the whole street with nostalgia.
Stroll around, grab a bite whenever something catches your eye, and shop for Ise specialties to take home. The whole street feels lively yet relaxed.

Okage Yokocho is next to Ise Jingu and has lots of authentic Japanese food, cafés, and shops. You can enjoy sweets from the traditional Akafuku shop and seafood from Ise while browsing the stores, and the lively atmosphere completely immerses travelers in the experience.

It really has that classic Japanese old-town feel, and the whole street is super fun to explore. Once you start walking and snacking, it’s hard to stop.

I’d recommend going on an empty stomach. Akafuku, Ise udon, and the other local specialties are definitely worth trying. It does get crowded on weekends, but it still feels like the kind of place that makes you want to slow down and wander around.
