Mojiko Retro in Kitakyushu is definitely worth adding to your itinerary! As soon as you get off the train, you can feel the strong atmosphere of a nostalgic port town. Many historic buildings from the Taisho and Showa periods have been preserved, and walking through the neighborhood feels like stepping back in time.

Strolling slowly along the harbor, you can see distinctive buildings such as Mojiko Station, the Former Osaka Shosen Building, and the Former Moji Mitsui Club, each with its own history. The historic architecture paired with the harbor views looks charming in every photo. You don't even need to search for a special angle to get a good shot 📸

It's also a great place to snack as you walk, browse specialty shops, pick up some souvenirs, and then sit down for a break at a café. Compared with the lively shopping streets of central Fukuoka, Mojiko has a more relaxed and romantic atmosphere.

If you're planning a trip to Kitakyushu, I highly recommend setting aside half a day to explore Mojiko Retro at a leisurely pace! There's no need to rush from one attraction to another. Walking along the harbor, admiring the old buildings, and taking in the historic atmosphere of this port city is truly relaxing.

When visiting Mojiko, you definitely can’t miss the adorable Banana Man!

As soon as we saw him wearing a hat and a suit, we couldn’t help but stop and take photos.

It turns out Mojiko used to be an important banana import port in Japan, which is why they have such a fun mascot.

As we strolled around, we spotted Banana Man everywhere. It added a lot of charm to the whole port area and gave us plenty of cute, memorable photos.

Mojiko Retro is absolutely beautiful! It has such a charming, nostalgic port-town atmosphere. The streets are clean and pleasant to walk around, and strolling along the waterfront is really relaxing.

There are lots of historic buildings, unique shops, and great food nearby. The baked curry and fugu dishes were also delicious. It’s a perfect place to spend half a day or even a full day taking a leisurely walk and snapping photos. It’s definitely somewhere I’d want to visit again.

The wooden interior of Mojiko Station has a romantic, retro Taisho-era vibe. I was taking side shots of the station restroom 😁 and got distracted by the water fountain next to it. There’s also a Starbucks inside the station where you can take a break.

The banana man in Mojiko is a must-photo spot. I heard it has some connection to Taiwanese bananas. One black and one yellow, they look super cool in the sunlight.

This place is full of the unique charm of a port city. You can also stroll through the nostalgic streets and visit European-style buildings like the former Moji Mitsui Club and the International Friendship Memorial Library.
