All Reviews of Philosopher's Path

Stretching from Ginkakuji Temple to Kumano Nyakuoji Shrine, this approximately 2-kilometer path is one of Kyoto’s classic walking routes. We were very lucky to visit when the cherry blossoms were in full bloom. As we walked along the canal, both sides were lined with blooming cherry trees, and the soft pink sea of blossoms complemented Kyoto’s streetscape beautifully. It was so beautiful that we didn’t want to walk too quickly. We didn’t plan anything in particular and simply took our time walking and enjoying the scenery along the way, which made it even easier to appreciate the charm of spring in Kyoto.

It is one of Kyoto's most famous cherry blossom viewing spots. It is lush and green in summer, colorful with red maple leaves in fall, and peaceful and serene in winter. Along the way, you can enjoy small bridges over flowing water, unique cafes, arts and culture shops, and nearby attractions such as Ginkakuji Temple and Eikando Temple. Strolling along the path lets you experience the relaxed, elegant atmosphere of the ancient capital.

When I came to Kyoto's Philosopher's Path, I had imagined a romantic scene filled with falling cherry blossoms. But since I visited in the summer this time, there were no cherry blossoms, though it had a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere instead.

I slowly strolled along the path beside the canal, shaded by green trees on both sides. I occasionally heard the sound of flowing water and birds chirping. It didn't have the bustle of a tourist attraction; instead, it felt like stepping into the everyday lives of Kyoto residents.

If I get another chance, I'd still like to come back during cherry blossom season to see just how beautiful the famous "cherry blossom tunnel" really is.

The Philosopher's Path, even without the cherry blossoms, still has a charm all its own.

In spring, the path is lined with cherry blossoms in full bloom. In autumn, you get to see beautiful fall colors. As someone who loves flower viewing, I come here every year!
