All Reviews of Kaichu Road (Okinawa)

When our tour bus traveled along Kaichu Road, the view outside the window really made us gasp! The straight road stretched across the deep blue sea, and everyone on the bus pulled out their phones and started snapping away, afraid they might miss any angle. With wide-open ocean views on both sides, it felt as if the bus were driving right through the middle of the sea. It was such an interesting experience.

If you're driving around Okinawa, Kaichu Road is definitely a worthwhile route to include! Although its name means “undersea road,” it isn't actually underwater. It's a road over the sea connecting Okinawa's main island with the Katsuren Peninsula and the Henza Island area, with endless blue ocean views along the way.

What I liked most was having the ocean on both sides while driving. When the weather is good, the water is a beautiful blue-green color, and the view is very open. With no tall buildings blocking the scenery, the entire drive feels especially pleasant and has Okinawa's distinctive resort atmosphere.

You can also find a place to stop along the way to take photos and look at the ocean. Standing by the sea with the wind blowing really makes you want to slow down. Compared with simply rushing from one attraction to another, I think a trip where you enjoy the scenery along the way actually feels more like traveling.

DMM Aquarium was honestly quite a surprise! Although it’s not big, the atmosphere is really well done. The coolest part is standing on the transparent glass and watching stingrays swim right under your feet—it’s super eye-catching. You can also see penguins and sloths up close, and it’s great for photos and interaction. Plus, it’s very close to the airport and inside a shopping mall, so it’s perfect as a backup plan for your first or last day!

The water at Kouri Bridge is an amazingly beautiful deep blue.

Kouri Island is absolutely beautiful. I also recommend getting the banana shake next to the shrimp rice place.
