  Winter Trip to Hakodate [Day 1] ~Hakodate’s Morning Market, Bay Area, Motomachi, and more~

  I visited Hakodate for 3 days and 2 nights over the winter. There was no end to things I wanted to do, but I was more than satisfied with being able to take the photo I wanted of Hakodate in the winter being both “sunny” and “snowy.” This article will introduce the things that I did on my first day in Hakodate, including visiting the Hakodate morning market, the bay area, the Motomachi church, and foods around Hakodate!

  Chiba Prefecture – Hondo-ji Temple’s 50,000 Hydrangeas

  Hondo-ji Temple, in Chiba Prefecture’s Matsudo City, is a temple of the Nichiren sect of Buddhism that was built in 1277. Every year in June, around 50,000 hydrangeas of over 10 varieties beautifully bloom. Because of this, the temple is also known as the “hydrangea temple.” It is easily accessible, with Kita-Kogane Station, the station nearest to the temple, being only 50 minutes by train from Tokyo Station. However, it truly is a well-kept-secret place, and you can be sure that you’ll be able to leisurely enjoy the flowers without worrying about crowds!

  Hydrangeas at Tokyo’s Hakusan Shrine

  Even if you want to see beautiful hydrangeas in bloom, travelling far for them can be difficult. As such, I’ll be introducing a place I recommend visiting for people staying in the heart of Tokyo: Hakusan Shrine and Hakusan Park, located in Tokyo’s Bunkyo Ward. This area is famous for having the most hydrangeas growing in the metropolitan area, with around 3000 hydrangeas planted. A hydrangea festival is held every year in mid-June, as the hydrangeas reach their peak beauty.

  See Remnants of Japan’s History Through Gassho-Zukuri Architecture at the World Heritage Site of Gokayama in Toyama Prefecture

  Gokayama is located in Nanto City, Toyama Prefecture, and is home to two gassho-zukuri settlements, Ainokura and Suganuma. “Gassho-zukuri” is the name of a historically valuable and unique type of architecture with pitched roofs that are similar in shape to hands clasped in prayer. Gassho-zukuri settlements can only be found in these snowy and mountainous areas. The Gokayama Settlement and Gifu Prefecture’s Shirakawa-go were registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1995.

  Enjoy an authentic Japanese experience in Kanazawa. ~ Higashi tea house district and Kazuemachi tea house district~

  Kanazawa is the main city of Ishikawa prefecture. Ishikawa is located in the centre of Japan’s main island. This region is called Hokuriku. In 2015 Japan Rail started to operate the Hokuriku Shinkansen(bullet train) line. Now we can access Kanazawa station from Tokyo in only 2.5 hours! This time I journeyed through Kanazawa’s popular tourist spots, the Higashi tea house district and the Kazuemachi tea house district.

  This article will introduce the 1st day of my trip. I departed from Shinjuku in Tokyo, then visited SL “TAIJU,” Kegon Falls, and Lake Chuzenji.

  I visited Hakodate for 3 days and 2 nights over the winter. There was no end to things I wanted to do, but I was more than satisfied with being able to take the photo I wanted of Hakodate in the winter being both “sunny” and “snowy.” This article will introduce the 3rd day of my trip to Hakodate! I’ll also be introducing the Kitajima Saburo Museum, a fresh uni donburi I had, Mashu-Maru, and a local hamburger restaurant called “Lucky Pierrot”!

  Hydrangeas at Tokyo’s Takahata Fudo-son Temple

  Takahata Fudo-son Temple is located in Hino City of Tokyo Prefecture. It is one of the three famous Fudo temples of the Kanto region, and it is one of Tokyo’s most famous locations for hydrangeas. The temple has around 7500 hydrangeas of 200 varieties growing wild around it, and a hydrangea festival is held annually from early June through early July, when they are at their most beautiful.

  Gifu Prefecture – March Trip to Hida Takayama and Shirakawa-go [Day 3]

  I visited Hida Takayama and Shirakawa-go in Gifu Prefecture in March over 3 days and 2 nights. The area is great to visit in any season, but I decided to visit while the snow was still around this time. In this article, I’ll be introducing my day 1 travels from Shinjuku to Shirakawa-go as well as my walk through Shirakawa-go. This article will introduce the 3rd day of my trip as I visit Takayama’s morning market and “Hida Furukawa,” the setting used in the movie “Kimi no Na Wa (Your Name).”
