Onuma Wild Bird Observatory (Onuma Bird House)
Located on the shores of Onuma in Wakkanai, the northernmost city in Japan, the Onuma Wild Bird Observatory is a prime spot for birdwatching. In autumn, swans stop here en route to their wintering grounds, and in spring, they rest before heading back to Siberia. The sight of thousands of swans covering the surface of the lake is truly breathtaking-with peak days seeing up to around 7,000 birds.
Doing snow activities at Onuma in winter feels so Hokkaido. The vibes are 10/10.
There aren’t a ton of activities, but each one is pretty fun—great for a first-timer.
