Ushidake Onsen Ski Resort

This ski resort is known for its spectacular views, where you can take in both Toyama Bay, said to be the most beautiful in the world, and the Tateyama Mountain Range, often compared to the European Alps. Its runs are also a major draw, with a maximum skiing distance of 2,000 meters and gentler slopes than many other resorts. That makes it especially well suited to beginners and intermediate skiers, with visitors of all ages, from children to seniors, able to enjoy skiing here.

It doesn’t get too crowded, and even beginners won’t feel too pressured here. The runs aren’t too difficult, so it feels smooth and easy to ski, making it a great place to practice at your own pace.

When you get tired, you can go straight to the hot springs, which is a huge plus. It’s so relaxing.

The overall vibe feels very local and down-to-earth. It’s not one of those flashy big ski resorts, but if you want a laid-back ski trip and a little healing on the side, this place is pretty great.

Nishi Park (Sendai)

The oldest urban park in Sendai, opened in 1875. It originated from the site once known as Sakuragaoka Park. The hilly area, once lined with samurai residences, was developed into a park, where large trees such as zelkova and ginkgo are scattered throughout, creating a rich natural setting in every season.

It’s not very big overall, but it’s really pleasant. There are lots of green trees, it’s easy to walk around, and it’s a great place for a stroll or just to sit and zone out. During cherry blossom season, the popularity really shoots up, especially at night when the lights are on and the atmosphere is fantastic. It does get pretty crowded, though.
On regular days, it’s very relaxed. You’ll see locals walking their dogs, jogging, and even lying on the grass scrolling on their phones.

True to its concept, “Wonderful table style for Nice people!”, BARBARA EXPO RESTAURANT is a place to enjoy wonderful food and a great time. The menu is French-based with Italian and Spanish touches, designed to please both the palate and the eye. From pasta and gratin to omurice, paella, and hamburg steak, there’s plenty to explore.

Lots of options—pasta, risotto, and steak dishes. The flavors are consistent and safe, but not quite “wow, this is amazing.”
Portions feel just right for women; for men, it might be a little on the small side.
For a department-store restaurant, the prices are a bit on the high side, but with the atmosphere, it’s still acceptable.

Sumoto Castle Ruins

Castle ruins located at the summit of Mt. Mikuma, Approx. 133 meters above sea level, in eastern Awaji Island. From the Sengoku period to the Edo period, it served as a base for governing Awaji Province. It is said to have been built in 1526 by the Ataka clan, who led the Awaji navy, and was later renovated by the Wakisaka clan into the stone-walled castle that remains today. From the ruins, you can enjoy a sweeping view not only of Sumoto City but also of Osaka Bay, making it a stronghold worthy of being called a fortress of the southern seas.

You’ll be a little out of breath on the way up, but the view is absolutely worth it. Once you get to the top, you can see all of Sumoto City and the ocean. It’s really beautiful on a clear day, and the view feels wide open.
There aren’t many buildings preserved at the ruins themselves. It’s mainly stone walls and the castle tower base, so it’s more about enjoying the scenery and soaking up the historical atmosphere than exploring a castle with lots of structures.
There are plenty of trees along the way, and the trail is fairly easy to walk, but I’d still recommend wearing comfortable shoes.

Futagami Mountain Manyo Line

Mt. Futagami, with an elevation of Approx. 274 meters, stands near the border between Takaoka City and Himi City in Toyama Prefecture. The Futagami Mountain Manyo Line is an Approx. 8-kilometer scenic driving route that runs along the mountain ridge. On clear days, it offers spectacular views of Toyama Bay and the Noto Peninsula on one side, and the Tateyama Mountain Range on the other. From the observation deck near the summit, you can take in a panoramic view of Takaoka City.

There are so many trees along the way that it almost feels like a natural sunshade, and when the wind blows, it feels amazingly cool. The route isn’t too difficult, and you get mountain views, city views, and that quiet, clean-air feeling at the same time. Super soothing.

Steakhouse Ichigo

Steakhouse Ichigo in Takamatsu, Kagawa Prefecture, specializes in female Japanese Black Olive Wagyu. Shodoshima-grown Olive Wagyu is raised on dried olive pomace. It is known for its light, clean-tasting fat from oleic acid and tender texture. Among the limited number of Olive Wagyu shipped each year, the restaurant purchases whole, only the rarest female cattle.

The steak was cooked just right. The fat was fragrant without being greasy, and the meat was super tender and juicy when you bit into it. The sides were simple but tasty, and the overall price felt reasonable too.

Norikura Kogen

A mountain resort spread across the eastern foothills of Mt. Norikura, located at the southern end of the Northern Alps. Set at elevations of around 3,937 to 5,906 feet within Chubu Sangaku National Park, it offers a wide range of outdoor activities amid beautiful nature in every season, from spring and summer when alpine flowers are in bloom, to fall with its vivid autumn leaves, and winter wrapped in powder snow.

It feels incredibly close to nature! The whole area is მშვიდ and the air is super clean, surrounded by mountains on all sides. No matter where you take a photo, it looks like a postcard.

There are lots of hiking trails and waterfalls to explore, and it really feels like spending the whole day immersed in the forest. Summer is so pleasant, the fall leaves are absolutely gorgeous, and in winter it turns into a ski paradise. Every season has its own scenery.

If you love mountains and hot springs and want to avoid the crowds, I highly recommend this place!

Dotonbori Giant Ferris Wheel Ebisu Tower

A giant Ferris wheel attached to the large discount store “Don Quijote” Dotonbori store along the Dotonbori River, one of the liveliest spots in Osaka’s Minami area, where buildings with flashy signs line both banks. Facing the river, this striking Ferris wheel is the world’s first oval shape, unlike typical circular wheels. Its four-person gondolas also feature a unique mechanism that rotates horizontally mid-ride-the first of its kind in the world.

You can see all of Dotonbori from up there, and at night when the lights come on, the vibe is amazing.
It’s not a super tall Ferris wheel, but since it’s right in the heart of lively Dotonbori, the night view hits different.
Great to try if you’re in the area!

Mt. Mantoro Observatory

The Mt. Mantoro Observatory sits atop Mt. Omine in Ide Town, Kyoto Prefecture, at an elevation of about 300 meters. From the summit, you can take in sweeping views of Ide Town with the Kizu River flowing below, stretching out as far as Kyoto Tower and the cityscape of Kyoto, as well as Mt. Ikoma in Nara. Especially at dusk and into the evening, the glowing city lights and the silhouettes of Kyoto Tower and Mt. Ikoma create a breathtaking scene. The observatory is also renowned for its night views, which have been officially recognized as part of Japan’s Night View Heritage.

You have to do a bit of climbing, but once you're up there, you get an amazing view of Lake Biwa and the mountains. On clear days, the scenery is super wide and open. At night, you can catch the night view—it's really romantic. It's not crowded at all, so it's quiet and perfect if you want to get away from the noise and just enjoy the scenery.

Kuranomachi Yuransen(Tochigi pleasure boat)

The Uzuma River flows through the center of Tochigi City, and visitors can enjoy a scenic boat ride aboard a traditional-style vessel. The cruise covers a 300-meter round trip from Kourai Bridge to Setogawara Park and takes about 30 minutes. As the boat glides past rows of historic warehouses reminiscent of the Edo period, the nostalgic townscape and tranquil pace create an unforgettable atmosphere.

Gliding slowly down the canal on a small boat, you pass by these really well-preserved old warehouse buildings—it feels like stepping back into the Edo period. The boatman gives little explanations as he rows, which adds to the laid-back vibe. On sunny days, the reflections of the buildings on the water are beautiful, and at night, the lights make it super romantic. It's perfect for taking photos and also for soaking up the local history at a relaxed pace.
