Opened in 1875, this is the oldest urban park in Sendai. It originated from the site once known as Sakuragaoka Park. Developed from a hilly area formerly lined with samurai residences, the park is dotted with large zelkova and ginkgo trees and is surrounded by rich nature throughout the year.

Within its Approx. 10.8-hectare grounds, you'll find plenty to see, including a preserved steam locomotive, a kokeshi doll tower, sculptures, a lawn plaza, and playground equipment for children, making it easy to enjoy a variety of scenery as you walk through the park. In spring, Approx. 200 cherry trees come into full bloom, and the illuminated cherry blossoms at night are especially popular, making this one of Sendai's top cherry blossom viewing spots. In autumn, the golden ginkgo leaves color the park, another reason its seasonal beauty stands out so clearly.

At Gengo Chaya in the park, you can enjoy Sendai-style sweets such as zunda mochi and sesame mochi, perfect for a short break during your walk. Citizen events are sometimes held in the plaza, and the park is loved as a place closely connected to local life. With Omachi Nishi-koen Station on the Tozai Subway Line just steps away, it's also easy to stop by between sightseeing plans.

A super convenient park right in the city center, but with a really laid-back vibe. It’s not far from Aoba-dori or the subway station, so it’s an easy walk and a great spot to take a break in the middle of shopping.
There are lots of trees, and on a nice day it feels great to sit on a bench and enjoy the breeze. It gets really crowded when the cherry blossoms are in bloom in spring. It feels kind of like Sendai’s everyday neighborhood park for a casual stroll. Usually it’s not packed with tourists, and it’s more of a local spot for walking dogs, jogging, or letting kids run around.

The location is really convenient, and it’s just right for taking a break after shopping. There’s plenty of green space and the atmosphere is relaxed. On nice days, you’ll see lots of locals walking, walking their dogs, or having a picnic, so it has a very lived-in, everyday feel.
It’s pretty nice during cherry blossom season, but it’s not that large. Compared with Japan’s really famous cherry blossom parks, it feels more casual and local.

It’s not very big overall, but it’s really pleasant. There are lots of green trees, it’s easy to walk around, and it’s a great place for a stroll or just to sit and zone out. During cherry blossom season, the popularity really shoots up, especially at night when the lights are on and the atmosphere is fantastic. It does get pretty crowded, though.
On regular days, it’s very relaxed. You’ll see locals walking their dogs, jogging, and even lying on the grass scrolling on their phones.
