In autumn, the street in front of the Samurai Residences is covered with red maple leaves and golden ginkgo. After sunset, you can enjoy the night maples, which are also beautiful. It gets pretty chilly in Tohoku at night, so make sure to dress warmly.

Besides the old town, there's also the Takayama Jinya nearby. It used to be the local government office and even had a jail during the Edo period. You can visit for free.
