Nara National Museum
This museum opened in 1895 as the second national museum in Japan. It houses many national treasures and important cultural properties such as Buddhist statues and objects, mainly Japanese Buddhist art from the Asuka to the Kamakura period.
They have a huge collection of Buddhist artifacts. If you're interested in Buddhist culture, it's definitely worth a visit.
Ishiyamadera Temple
This is the head temple of the Shingon school on the bank of the Seta River, which flows from Lake Biwa, the largest lake in Japan. There are strange rocks erected all over the precincts, including the large rock towering in front of the Hondo (main shrine).
It's so peaceful and quiet here, with only beautiful and tranquil scenery all around.
Hida Takayama Miyagawa Morning Market
"The Miyagawa Morning Market is held along the Miyagawa River from Kaji-bashi Bridge to Yayoi-bashi Bridge, near the “Furuimachinami”(old townscape) of Hida Takayama.
You have to go early in the morning because everything wraps up by noon. Most of the stalls sell local produce from the Takayama area, but there are also souvenir shops geared toward tourists. It's not far from the old town, either.
Naramachi
An old city area of Nara is a rare sightseeing place in Japan like Kyoto and Kanazawa. The old townhouses located in the area centering on the ancient precinct of Gangoji Temple remained as they were when they were built between the Edo and Meiji periods, which makes you feel a retro atmosphere while walking.
There are lots of traditional Japanese houses here, and many have historical significance. Plus, admission is free everywhere! Having Chinese-speaking guides is a huge plus!
