Okinawa International Carnival

The carnival began in 1993 and is held annually on the last Saturday and Sunday of November in Okinawa City. The event lasts for two days and attracts tens of thousands of participants every year. Ryukyuan dances, street dances, eisa, folk performances, musicals, live music, brass bands, etc. are performed.

I love joining the carnival parade in Okinawa! There are folk dances from all over the world, and everyone wears colorful clothes and unique accessories. There’s even a motorcycle parade—it’s so much fun!

Tsuchiura All Japan Fireworks Competition

The historic fireworks competition has been held in Tsuchiura City, Ibaraki Prefecture since 1925 (Taisho 14). Fireworks professionals from all over the country gather to showcase their skills.

Japan’s autumn fireworks are amazing! Fireworks artists create spectacular shows based on themes given by the organizers, all competing for the top prize. There’s also music at the venue, which makes the whole atmosphere really lively and adds extra sparkle to the fireworks.

Gifu City Industrial and Agricultural Festival - Gifu Nobunaga Festival - is the highlight of Gifu’s autumn. The father in law, Saito Dosan built Gifu Castle. Oda Nobunaga put a base in this castle and proceeded to unify Japan, which is celebrated in this festival. On the 1st Saturday and Sunday of November, an array of events are held around the heart of the city, Gifu Station.

This year, they specially invited Takuya Kimura and Hideaki Ito. After the pandemic, this event really brought new energy to Japanese tourism, attracting over 460,000 people—it was super crowded! Seeing my favorite celebrities made me so happy.

Festival of the Lights in OSAKA: Midosuji Illumination

The "Festival of the Lights in OSAKA," which beautifully and fantastically illuminates the night of Osaka, is an event that has two core programs: the "Midosuji Illumination" on Midosuji, Osaka's main street, and the "Osaka Hikari-Renaissance" in the Nakanoshima, the symbol of the city’s waterways.

Osaka is the most beautiful city in Kansai during winter! The Midosuji Illumination is stunning. I visited before, and the trees along Midosuji were decorated with lights. The ginkgo trees turned the whole street yellow, blending perfectly with the sparkling lights. It was truly unforgettable.

The Rice Ear Festival - The Fox's Wedding

Held every November 3rd at the Hoshouji Temple in Shimonoseki City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, it's said that participating in this festival brings good marital fortune. The highlight of the festival is the "Fox's Wedding" procession, where participants dressed as foxes parade through the town. The procession is led by a rickshaw carrying a bride and groom, both wearing white fox masks, followed by relatives in traditional formal kimono, hairstylists, and attendants. The true identities of the bride and groom are kept a secret even from the staff, adding an element of mystery and intrigue to the event.

The Rice Ear Festival is held to pray for a good harvest. There's also a fun parade called the Fox's Wedding, where the bride and groom wear white fox masks and ride in a palanquin, followed by relatives and wedding gifts. It's really interesting!

Roppongi Hills Christmas Keyakizaka Illumination

Announcing the arrival of winter to the streets of Roppongi is "Roppongi Hills Christmas". At the "Keyakizaka Illumination", the tree-lined avenue of Keyakizaka, stretching about 400 meters, is adorned with approximately 800,000 LEDs. Bathed in the light themed "SNOW & BLUE", the ambiance feels as though one has stepped into a fantastical silvery realm.

Roppongi Hills has the best Christmas vibes in Tokyo! The whole Keyakizaka street looks like a dreamy, silvery galaxy. The sparkling lights and the amazing view of Tokyo Tower make this a must-visit winter photo spot. Can't wait!

2025 SENDAI Pageant of Starlight

The SENDAI Pageant of Light was created in 1986 with the hopes of "brightening up Sendai in winter" and "transforming the City of Trees into a City of Light." The zelkova trees on the Jozenji-dori Avenue, the main street that represents the City of Trees, will be illuminated. It is loved by both locals and tourists as a wintertime tradition in Sendai that creates a fantastic world.

Jozenji-dori Avenue is about 700 meters long, and around 500,000 LED lights illuminate 129 zelkova trees on both sides. The whole street glows with colorful lights—it's beautiful and the atmosphere feels so romantic.

Ashikaga Flower Park "Garden of Light Flowers"

Ashikaga Flower Park, which spans approximately 100,000 square meters, offers visitors the chance to enjoy a variety of flowers throughout the seasons. The "Garden of Light Flowers" event, held from mid-October to mid-February, is a popular event celebrated for its scale and beauty, earning it a spot among the top three illumination events in Japan.

Ashikaga Flower Park is at its most beautiful during the winter illumination show! There are three different time periods and themed displays. In the Garden of Light Flowers, five million lights make the famous wisteria look absolutely stunning and grand.

Asakusa Shin Nakamise Shopping Street

Boasting a history of about 90 years since its inception in the early Showa era, the Asakusa Shin Nakamise Shopping Street crosses Asakusa from east to west, in contrast to the Nakamise Shopping Street that connects the Kaminarimon Gate to Asakusa Temple. It is the largest shopping street in Asakusa, with a total length of 380m, and is composed of five areas.
