Nikko Toshogu

Nikko Toshogu is a shrine dedicated to the Edo shogun Ieyasu Tokugawa. It is the most visited spot within the World Heritage Site “Shrines and Temples of Nikko,” and here you can see 55 exceptional buildings, including 8 that have been designated as national treasures and 34 that have been designated as Important Cultural Properties.

Nikko Toshogu’s architecture is gorgeous and incredibly detailed, with intricate carvings that showcase outstanding craftsmanship and a rich sense of history and culture.

The famous “Three Wise Monkeys” and “Sleeping Cat” carvings are absolute must-sees. Walking through the solemn shrine grounds, surrounded by forest, the peaceful setting creates a sacred and tranquil atmosphere.

Koami Shrine

Koami Shrine was established in 1466, and is located in Ningyocho, with various nostalgic restaurants, and offices. It evaded destruction from the Great Tokyo Air Raids. Soldiers who went to the battlefield carrying charms from the shrine miraculously returned, making the shrine popular as a spot for good luck and warding away bad luck.
