Amakusa Kaisen Kura

Located at the northern tip of Shimoshima, the largest island in the Amakusa archipelago, this popular complex offers dolphin watching in some of Kumamoto’s clearest waters along with dining options that let you fully enjoy local seafood.

I had the grilled live abalone set at Amakusa Kaisen Kura, and it was incredibly fresh and delicious. It was simply cooked over charcoal, and with just a little sauce, it tasted amazing.
The grilled fish really surprised me with how good it was. Even after going back to Taiwan, I still kind of miss that fish QQ
The shop also sells lots of items and has plushie prize draws, so you can try your luck and take home a cute souvenir doll.

Nabegataki Park

With a drop of Approx. 10 m and a width of Approx. 20 m, this wide waterfall captivates visitors with its enveloping sound of water and its beautiful, transparent veil-like appearance.

The way the sunlight filters through the branches and mist is absolutely beautiful! It was also super cool and refreshing even on a hot summer day. The coolest part is that you can walk behind the waterfall. This place is basically photogenic from every angle... no matter where we went, every shot turned out great.
Just be careful because it can get slippery. There are wooden walking sticks available at the entrance to the trail, and using one on the way down to the waterfall feels a lot safer.

Dolphin Watching Reservation Center (Amakusa City, Kumamoto)

A dolphin-watching tour set in the waters of Amakusa Itsuwa, home to around 150 wild Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins.

There’s a realistic dolphin statue by the entrance with the day’s date on it, so you can take a one-of-a-kind souvenir photo.
We were lucky to have great weather. The waves were calm, and the boat ride out was very smooth. The clear seawater sparkled like crystal in the sunlight. There are 200 to 300 wild bottlenose dolphins living here, and the captain expertly guided us to them, so there was hardly any worry about missing out.
Seeing so many dolphins swimming and jumping up close with my own eyes was incredibly exciting and moving! Watching their graceful movements underwater and hearing the vivid, real sound of their blows made it more than just a chance to see cute animals. It also gave me a deeper appreciation for the beauty of our planet and the importance of cherishing it.

Nagabeta Kaishoro

The row of utility poles standing in the sea creates a mysterious and almost otherworldly sight, making it one of Kumamoto Prefecture’s most famous photo spots on social media today.

The scenery is absolutely beautiful~ If you love taking photos, you’ll definitely get lots of gorgeous shots here.

When I went this time, it happened to be low tide, so it was a bit of a shame I didn’t get to see the road submerged in the water. But the road stretching off into the distance was still a beautiful sight, and I also saw lots of cute little crabs on the tidal flats. If you play Pikmin, you can trade flower petals for a postcard! The Pikmin postcard here is super pretty!

Yachiyoza

Yamaga is a town that flourished due to its distribution via water canals along the Kikuchi River, and as a hot springs resort during the Edo Period. A successful businessman at the time used these same resources to build Yachiyoza, a large style playhouse in 1910.

The moment I saw Yachiyoza after walking through the quiet streets, I could immediately feel its rich sense of history. I really love places like this—peaceful, yet full of character and depth.

At first, you might think, "It’s just an old theater," but the building has been beautifully restored and preserved. It’s gorgeous and spotless, and the ceiling paintings are truly spectacular!

The backstage tour route is also very well organized. This is definitely a historical spot worth visiting.
