Akihabara Radio Kaikan
Since its opening in 1950, Akihabara Radio Kaikan has long been beloved as an iconic presence in front of the station. After multiple renovations and expansions over the decades, it was temporarily closed in the summer of 2011 for reconstruction, and finally celebrated its long-awaited grand reopening in the summer of 2014 after three years of construction.
This landmark building next to Akihabara Station is Akihabara Radio Kaikan (秋葉原ラジオ会館, often mistranslated as Denpa Kaikan), a treasure-hunting destination that no otaku or anime fan visiting Tokyo should miss!
The building is packed with well-known model, toy, and anime merchandise stores such as amiami, K-BOOKS, and JUNGLE, offering everything from the latest releases to rare pre-owned figures. It also houses the LoveLive! series Official Store, with autographed standees and limited-edition exhibits that draw large numbers of fans. Huge anime posters on the exterior shine against the dazzling nightscape. Whether you want to shop to your heart's content or take commemorative photos, this is the iconic heart of Akihabara!
