Suizenji Jojuen Garden

It is a stroll garden with spring water that Tadatoshi, the first lord of the Hosokawa clan, created after building a teahouse here where subsoil water from the Aso Mountains gushed forth. Tsunatoshi, the third lord of the Hosokawa clan, later created a large-scale garden that was named "Jojuen" after a poem by Tao Yuanming.

Suizenji is a very large Edo-period stroll garden. It gets especially crowded with visitors during cherry blossom and fall foliage seasons, and it's a great place to take photos in a kimono. The little ducks in the pond are really super cute.

Sakuranobaba Josaien is a shopping street below Kumamoto Castle. You can buy Kumamoto souvenirs there, and there are also restaurants and food stalls. Samurai also perform for visitors at scheduled times. After visiting Kumamoto Castle, you can come down and stroll around.

Kumamoto Castle is really big. You should set aside at least 1.5 hours to walk around and visit the castle keep. It's a must-see attraction in Kumamoto, with cherry blossoms in spring and fall foliage in autumn. Samurai also occasionally appear near the castle, and visitors can take commemorative photos with them.

The Hilton Fukuoka Sea Hawk is a five-star hotel very close to the dome. It's very convenient if you're going to a concert, and it also has the most rooms of any hotel in central Fukuoka. The view from the higher floors is quite beautiful at night. The breakfast restaurant has a high ceiling and is really beautiful and modern.

Kokonoe “Yume” Otsurihashi

This is a large, 777-meter-high suspension bridge for sightseeing that spans the Kyusuikei Valley near the Kumamoto Prefecture border at the foot of the Kuju Mountain Range. The 173-meter-high, 390-meter-long suspension bridge, Japan's tallest pedestrian bridge, offers a thrilling view of the surrounding valley and is a popular observation spot.

It really is quite a long walk across this bridge. There are waterfalls to see along the way, and there's also a transparent walkway in the middle. Looking down from above is really pretty scary, so if you're afraid of heights, it's best not to look down. Kokonoe “Yume” Otsurihashi is a must-see when visiting Kyushu.

Mitsui Shopping Park LaLaport Fukuoka

A large-scale commercial complex that opened on April 25, 2022 on the site of a former fruit and vegetable market in Hakata Ward, Fukuoka City. It is the first "LaLaport" in Kyushu and boasts approximately 220 stores, many of which opened for the first time in Kyushu.

This outlet mall opened in recent years, and its biggest attraction is the life-size Gundam robot at the entrance, which moves into different poses every hour. Inside, there are all kinds of stores, big and small, so you can buy everything you need in one place. I really recommend that travelers visit.

Beppu Ropeway

The Beppu Ropeway connects Beppu-Kōgen Station, located at the foot of Tsurumi-dake, to Tsurumi-Sanjo Station at an altitude of 1,300 meters. Spanninga steep 1,816-meter ascent in about 10 minutes, it offers a smooth yet thrilling journey up the mountain. Measuring in at a whopping 12 meters long and 8 meters wide, you’re in for a cozy, spacious ride on one of Kyushu’s largest gondolas. Expect top-notch safety and top-class rides since its opening in 1962.

At the Beppu Ropeway, if the weather is good, you can look out over Beppu Bay. The scenery is distinct in every season, making it a place worth visiting. I remember it was still winter when I went, and there was snow to play in at the observation deck at the top. The station cat at the ropeway station was also super cute.

Kinrin Lake

Kinrin Lake is one of many popular tourist spots in the hot springs town of Yufuin. The lake sits under Mt. Yufu and as such was called takemoto-no-ike (lit. “lake under the mountain”) for years. However, it was renamed to Kinrin, or “golden scales”, by Mori Kuso in 1884 when he saw the golden glimmering scales of fish as they swam at sunset.

Walking along Yunotsubo Shopping Street and browsing the shops, you'll eventually reach Kinrin Lake. When the weather is nice, you can see the lake's shimmering surface, and it really feels like a fairytale world. It's a great place for families, couples, and friends to take photos and make wonderful memories.

A compact theme park that recreates the streetscapes of the Cotswolds region in the UK, known as a filming location for the movie “Harry Potter,” with a magical, fairytale-like atmosphere that feels like you’ve stepped into a storybook. Inside the park, beautiful plants bloom throughout the seasons, and paths lined with stone cottages continue on, with plenty of photo spots scattered throughout.

Yufuin Floral Village is located on Yunotsubo Street in Yufuin. It resembles a fairytale village from a magical story. Admission is free, and there is a wide variety of Sanrio and Harry Potter merchandise inside. There is also an owl café that charges an admission fee. It's a great place for anyone who enjoys taking photos and making beautiful memories.

Yunotsubo Kaido is a charming street located about a 10-minute walk from Yufuin Station. This 800-meter-long street is dotted with souvenir shops, cafes, and museums.

Yufuin is a very popular hot spring area voted for by women. I really like this place. The scenery, shops, and snacks along the way are all unique. You can take a rickshaw around the hot spring area or stay overnight here. It's a really relaxing place with a slow pace of life. I highly recommend planning a visit here.
