Shinjuku Golden Gai
A traditional, retro-style bar district in Shinjuku's Kabukicho, where about 300 wooden row-house style shops line the narrow alleyways. Renowned for offering an intimate encounter with Japanese culture.
The retro vibe of Golden Gai is such a cool contrast to the modern feel of Shinjuku. Super interesting!

Fujitaya
Fujitaya, established in 1902, is a long-established restaurant serving “Anagomeshi”, located in the residential area near Itsukushima Shrine. Miyajima’s local dish Anagomeshi, is a Donburi (rice bowl) cuisine with conger eel that has been cut open along the back, brushed with a soy based sauce, grilled and placed over rice.
This is different from the usual eel rice. The texture of the fish is much more tender, and the special sauce smells amazing. It was so delicious I didn't leave a single grain of rice!

Yagenbori Hassho
Yagenbori Hassho is a top class popular restaurant, even within Hiroshima City that has many Okonomiyaki restaurants. People line-up in front of the restaurant every day, and it has a great deal of media coverage.
This is a well-known old-school Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki place. Be prepared to wait in line! The prices are low and the portions are huge—one serving is way too much for just one person.
