It’s rare to be able to get this close and really feel the traces of a great literary figure’s everyday life.

Takayama Jin-ya
Takayama Jin-ya is the office building where magistrates and officers were working in the Edo Period. It consists of offices and storage. In 1692 when Hida Province came under the Tokugawa shogunate’s direct control, governors and magistrates sent from Edo performed official duties here for the next 176 years.
This used to be the local government office. You can still see the tools they used for holding prisoners.

Bokka no Sato (Pastoral Village)
The Hirugano Plateau is located at an altitude of 1,000 meters at the foot of Mount Dainichigatake in Okumino, Gifu Prefecture. Bokka no Sato is a relaxing theme park with flowers and animals.
The ranch is huge, with lots of natural flowers and plants. There are also cute animals around. I tried Hida beef for the first time here.

Taisho Pond
Taisho Pond was created by the blockage of the Azusa River due to the eruption of Yakedake Mountain in 1915. The clean blue-green water clearly reflects the beautiful Kamikochi mountain range. The forest under the water has decayed in a mystical way, which now gives the pond a spiritual atmosphere. The beautiful birch forest spreads out at an altitude of 1,490 meters above sea level, the highest level where these kinds of trees are able to grow.
As soon as you get off the bus, you see the beautiful mountains reflected in the lake. The scenery here is amazing—it feels like being in Europe.
