First established in 1887, this tendon (rice bowl topped with tempura) restaurant is a noted dining spot in Asakusa, one of Tokyo’s major areas for eating tendon. They use nothing but sesame oil to cook with, and their tempura is fried perfectly to a wonderful brown color. They have a rich house-made sweet and salty sauce that’s been a mainstay of the restaurant ever since they first opened their doors, and the recipe has been kept the same the whole time.
Their tendon bowls feature a wide variety of toppings and ingredients to enjoy, and their “Prawn Tempura” bowl, a favorite among diners, features 4 massive pieces of prawn tempura served up on a bowl of rice. In addition to their tendon bowls, they also have a large selection of other tempura dishes and a la carte items to enjoy as well.

  • This is a classic spot in Asakusa you just can't miss. Their special sauce goes perfectly with the rice, and a sip of the hot tea they serve really helps cut the oiliness.

  • A Japanese friend took us to this famous tempura spot that we've heard so much about. As soon as we walked in, we felt the simple yet elegant Japanese vibe. The jumbo shrimp on the tempura rice bowl were huge and golden brown. Even though the special sauce looked rich, the taste was light with a nice sesame oil aroma and the fresh flavor of the shrimp—not greasy at all.
The mixed tempura bowl with shrimp, shellfish, veggies, and batter was also especially delicious!

  • After shopping, I came here for a meal. The food was tasty and the owner was super friendly.
