Standing along Shinjuku Dori, at the East Exit of Shinjuku Station, is Kinokuniya, a major bookseller. Since its establishment in 1927, it has been a mainstay of Shinjuku, supporting its development in shopping. Completed in 1964, the current Kinokuniya Building wash chosen as a building of historical value by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government in 2017.

The solid character of its exterior gives way to the 1st floor atrium. In Zone A near Shinjuku Dori, you’ll find the latest periodicals and magazines. Zone C at the back has a Western book and English magazine section as well as a duty-free counter. From the 2nd floor on up, a wide array of specialty books may be found of each floor.

These floors are set up by the following categories: the 2nd floor is Literature, the 3rd floor is for Humanities, the 4th floor is for the Arts, and the 5th floor has an important selection of Medical and Nursing books. Picture books and those related to sports and hobbies are on the 6th floor, while the 7th floor has books for Language and Learning. There is even a corner in the Children’s and Picture Book area on the 6th floor that is devoted to character goods. In the Basement 1st floor, which is directly connected to the subway, you’ll find a Food Court.

Go through the 1st floor atrium to the Annex. Here, you’ll find DVDs and CDs, along with a duty-free counter, on the 2nd floor Mezzanine, while comic books are sold on the 2nd floor.
