This aquarium was opened in 2000 near Onahama Port. Its theme is the current rip where the two currents Kuroshio and Oyashio meet, which bring rich blessings to the sea of Fukushima.
The aquarium’s main attraction is Shiome no Umi, the triangle tunnel sandwiched by two big aquariums, where you can experience the current rip, the meeting point of Kuroshio and Oyashio currents. Watch the bonito, sardine, flounder, herring and other fish that gather to the current rip. Make sure to look at Oyashio Ice Box with a collection of mackerels and rare creatures only seen in Oyashio here.
Another theme here is the environment aquarium. You can touch creatures around the beach at the petting pool “Janome Beach,” taste the fish you caught right at the fishing site, and try many other hands-on events. Also, go watch the feeding of spotted seals and sea lions at another aquarium.
