It is a commercial complex located adjacent to the Nusamai Bridge at the Kushiro River’s mouth. MOO is an acronym for “Marine Our Oasis” and is popular as a symbol of the waterfront.
There are souvenir stores selling marine products and well-known confections, a tourist information center, and a food court “Minato no Yatai (Harbor Booth)” with food stall-style restaurants. Also popular is the Japanese-style BBQ “MOO Ganpeki Robata,” which is only open during the summer.
The building was designed by Kushiro-born architect Kikou Mozuna, and the exterior with daring design features Kushiro’s natural motifs, such as cranes, the mountains of Akan National Park, and ship masts on the Kushiro River side. And the road side facing the bus lanes features designs based on Kushiro’s industrial motifs, such as coal mine belt conveyors and oil tanks.
