Even though located in Sapporo City with 2 million residents, Hitsujigaoka Observation Hill offers the beauty of mother nature. In spring, the hay comes out in green. One of those spots is the Dr. Clark statue. William Smith Clark is known for his famous words “Boys, be ambitious,” as the Father of Hokkaido pioneers. The right hand raised means “the eternal truth in the far distance, and the statue represents his wish for his students to be ambitious in seeking truth.
