Kajo Central 24th-Floor Observation Lobby
Spectacular views of mountains, the city, and peaceful countryside from one of Yamagata's tallest buildings.
This multipurpose building towers over the west exit of JR Yamagata Station and has been a local landmark since its grand opening in 2001.
Located on the 24th floor, the observation lobby offers sweeping views through its windows. Visitors can look out over the cityscape stretching across the Yamagata Basin, with the Zao mountain range, Mount Gassan, and the Asahi mountain range beyond. The peaceful countryside surrounded by mountains also provides a soothing sight.
Although indoors, the top-floor lobby feels wonderfully open and spacious. Admission is free every day from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. By day, visitors can take in the tranquil scenery under clear skies. At night, the lights of homes scattered across the city create an enchanting view below.
Its direct connection to the station makes it a convenient place to stop while waiting for a train or to round off a trip to Yamagata.
