Zuisen Distillery
A traditional taste preserved for 130 years.
During the Ryukyu dynasty, Awamori making was only allowed in 3 districts named the “Shuri-Sanka” to preserve its tradition and quality. It was made under strong monitoring by the country. Zuisen Distillery is one of the 3 “Shuri-Sanka”. With a cellar located in Shurisakiyama-cho, this distillery has preserved its traditional taste since 1887.
The name Zuisen is named after a clean, serene spring flowing around Shuri Castle Zuisen Gate. The liquor made with traditional Awamori/Old Sake techniques has been praised globally, earning high ratings at alcohol competitions.
The awamori “Usaki” is made with black koji mold used pre-war, which was miraculously found and succeeded in fermentation. It is a legendary drink. Old sake such as “Omoro” is a popular drink, and other liquors made using Okinawan ingredients are available for sale.
Visitors can also take a factory tour, where they can sample and taste some old sake and liquor. No fees are required, so Awamori beginners can learn about them.
