Chuo Park Avenue
A retro shopping mall in Okinawa.
This shopping mall was originally created as an entertainment district for the U.S. Army. This district at first used to be a place for an exchange between American and the local people in 1950 and was called “the Business Center Street” with meaning a center for commerce. Now that the name was changed to “Chuo Park Avenue”, the scenery is characteristic of coconuts roadside trees and consecutive white roofs, which provides a tropical atmosphere while you walk.
Currently, shops for Japanese are lined up, there are many sundry shops with creative taste and deep goods shops for mania. Also, many unique shops are open such as “Crazy Store” and “Tiger Emb”, artisan shops making custom-made embroidery, “Charley Takosu” has been opened for 66 years since the American Colonial Era. Closed shops are noticed for several years while stylish shops using an empty space are appearing.
