Held annually at Southeast Botanical Gardens in Okinawa City, this spring tradition celebrates the vibrant colors of tropical blooms, with bougainvillea at their absolute peak throughout the garden. Visitors can stroll, relax, and enjoy taking photos among the vivid blossoms.
The highlight of the event is Japan’s tallest Bougainvillea Tower, standing at an impressive 8 meters. Covered entirely in blooming bougainvillea, the towering structure creates a breathtaking sight and is a popular spot for commemorative photos. In the evening, the tower is illuminated, offering a magical atmosphere completely different from the daytime view.
During the event period, bougainvillea seedlings are available for purchase, and the on-site shop and café offer a special parfait inspired by the Bougainvillea Tower-perfect for a springtime treat.
The botanical garden itself is home to outdoor landscapes featuring the Yusura Palm Avenue and Bottle Palm Avenue, both designated as Registered Cultural Properties (Registered Monuments) of Japan in June 2025.
