Tokyo Gate Bridge is a truss bridge that stands out with its distinctive form, spanning across Tokyo Bay. Located between Koto Ward's Wakasu and Koto Ward's Umi no Mori in the Central Breakwater, it boasts a total length of 2,618 meters and a height of about 88 meters. The bridge was inaugurated in 2012 and is toll-free for vehicles.
Its proximity to Haneda Airport and the necessity to ensure the safe navigation of ships in Tokyo Bay have contributed to its unique design.
Pedestrians can ascend to the bridge's walkway from the elevator facility on the Wakasu side. However, while there's a pathway installed on the city side, it doesn't allow descent on the Central Breakwater side. Hence, pedestrians must return to the Wakasu side to exit. Bicycles and mopeds aren't allowed, and pets are also prohibited. Adverse weather conditions like storms or snow can lead to restrictions; it's advisable to check Tokyo Port Office's official Twitter account for real-time updates.
Every day, from sunset to midnight, the bridge is illuminated. The lighting color changes every month, using traditional Japanese colors: January is platinum, February is pearl, March is young grass, April is fresh green, May is green foliage, June is light blue, July is sea color, August is sky blue, September is bellflower, October is autumn grass, November is autumn leaves, and December is scarlet.
