Sumida Heritage Museum
Discover the history and culture of Sumida Ward through various exhibits!
Sumida Ward, a key hub in the Sumida River basin since ancient times and a flourishing center of commoner culture during the Edo period, is now known for the TOKYO SKYTREE. The Sumida Heritage Museum is dedicated to collecting, preserving, and exhibiting materials related to the history, traditions, and local culture of Sumida Ward.
On the first floor, the permanent exhibition "Sumida's Journey" showcases the history of Sumida from prehistoric times to the present day through documents, paintings, and archaeological finds. The second floor features a diorama depicting cherry blossom viewing along the Sumida embankment in the late Meiji period, offering an immersive experience. Additionally, there are exhibits of paintings depicting experiences of the Tokyo air raids. Special exhibitions related to Sumida’s history, culture, traditions, and famous places are held several times a year in the third-floor exhibition room.
