Kamiya Bar
At Japan's first bar, founded in the Meiji era and beloved by literary giants, savor the signature cocktail.
Established in Meiji 13 (1880) and known as Japan's first bar, "Kamiya Bar" was adored by numerous literary greats like Osamu Dazai and Tayama Katai. This iconic spot often makes appearances in literary works. The building housing the bar, located near Azuma Bridge in Asakusa, was constructed in Taisho 10 (1921) and is a Registered Tangible Cultural Property of Japan.
Their signature cocktail, "Denki Bran", was created by the founder. With brandy as its base, it's blended with secret proportions of gin, wine, curaçao, and herbs. Its unique amber hue and subtle sweetness have been cherished from its inception to the present day.
Interestingly, at Kamiya Bar, it's recommended to alternate sips of draft beer with your drink, known as a chaser. Amidst its modern ambiance, you'll feel the nostalgic atmosphere of downtown Tokyo, and with a diverse menu of both Japanese and Western appetizers like simmered dishes, German potatoes, and crab croquettes, you'll surely want to settle in for a long session. The second floor of the building houses a Western-style restaurant with an array of dishes, from light meals to desserts.
