Daimaru Kyoto
A long-established department store where you can find Kyoto's famous products.
Located in the bustling Karasuma area of Kyoto, this department store has a long history dating back to 1717 when Hikoemon Shimomura opened a kimono shop called "Daimonjiya" in Kyoto's Fushimi area. The Kyoto store relocated to its current location in 1912 and reopened in the department store format.
The store offers a wide range of high-quality items across various categories, including apparel, miscellaneous goods, cosmetics, furniture and appliances, sports equipment, stationery, jewelry, and gourmet food. The food department on the basement floor is particularly perfect for souvenir hunting, featuring stalls from Kyoto's long-established and popular stores.
In September 2023, the restaurant floor was renovated for the first time in about 50 years, attracting attention with "first in Western Japan" and "first in a commercial facility" store openings. Additionally, a new feature, the "Manga Wall," where visitors can freely read about 3,000 volumes of food-related manga, was introduced. The renovated rooftop plaza " KOTOHOT Terrace" is furnished with warm and unique wooden furniture, which can be connected to form large tables or used freely for seating.
