This shopping street is located along the approach leading from Shijo Ohashi Bridge and Gion-Shijo Station to Yasaka Shrine. Centered on Shijo Street, it is lined with long-established shops and specialty stores along Yamatooji Street, Hanamikoji Street, Higashioji Street, and more.

This local shopping district values Gion’s long history and is deeply involved in traditional events such as the Gion Festival. Many of its shops are loved not only by tourists but also by locals, where you can enjoy dining, shopping, and strolling while experiencing Kyoto’s traditions.

Along the street, you’ll find a wide range of famous establishments, from long-established Kyoto pickle and Japanese sweets shops to popular stores such as "Yojiya Gion Main Store" and "Gion Tsujiri." On Hanamikoji Street, where stone-paved paths and traditional bengara lattice facades continue, you may also catch sight of maiko and geiko, adding to the distinctly Kyoto atmosphere. In addition to shops and restaurants, there is also Minamiza, known as the birthplace of kabuki, as well as galleries, museums, and kimono rental shops, allowing you to experience Kyoto culture firsthand.
