Last update :
Supervised by :  Kyoto City

This trekking course circles the mountains surrounding Kyoto City and is divided into five areas: Higashiyama, Kitayama East, Kitayama West, Nishiyama, and Keihoku. Most of the course is under 500 meters in elevation, with a wide variety of routes for beginners to intermediate hikers.

One of the trail's biggest attractions is the chance to enjoy Kyoto's unique history, nature, and city walks all at the same time. World Heritage Sites and famous spots such as Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine, Kiyomizu-dera Temple, Mount Hiei, Kurama and Kibune, and Arashiyama are scattered along the trail, letting you explore Kyoto's history as you hike. By combining mountain paths with city walks after descending, the course is designed so you can enjoy crisp mountain air, Kyoto's distinctive streetscapes, and local food culture all in one day.

The official guidebook is sold at bookstores and tourist information centers in and around Kyoto City. It is an essential map for trekking, with trail markers and highlights along the route. An English digest edition is also available.
