Yamame Gyoza
Crispy and packed with juicy flavor! A specialty restaurant serving carefully made enban gyoza with hand-stretched wrappers.
Located Approx. 6 minutes from Fukushima Station, Yamame Gyoza has been serving Fukushima’s soul food, enban gyoza, since opening in September 1964. Long loved by locals, it is known as a popular spot enjoyed by many visitors as well.
The restaurant’s signature enban gyoza is made with wrappers that are hand-stretched one by one only after an order is placed. This careful process creates the pleasantly chewy texture unique to hand-stretched dough. The filling is 70% vegetables and 30% meat, giving it a light flavor. Another distinctive feature is the unique cooking method, which is almost like pan-frying in oil. Crisp on the outside and full of savory juices inside, these dumplings are a must-try. Other popular items include boiled gyoza with pleasantly chewy wrappers, as well as side dishes such as miso yakko and cucumber kimchi.
The interior has a warm, retro Showa-era atmosphere. It draws a wide range of diners, from locals to tourists. The restaurant also offers a selection of Fukushima’s prized sake, including labels from breweries that have won the gold prize at the Annual Japan Sake Awards for seven consecutive years, to enjoy alongside enban gyoza.
