This 162-meter mountain is located in Matsushimamachi, Kamiamakusa City, Kumamoto Prefecture, and is known for its mystical landscape of unusual rock formations, just as its name suggests. It is widely recognized as one of the area's top scenic spots and is also designated as a nationally recognized Place of Scenic Beauty.
From the summit, you can enjoy a full 360-degree view, with sweeping scenery stretching in every direction, including the Ariake Sea, Mount Unzen Fugen, Oyano Island, Shiranuhi, and the Amakusa Gokyo Bridges. On clear days, you can even see volcanic smoke rising from distant Aso, making this a truly remarkable spot for some of Kumamoto’s finest views.
In spring, cherry trees planted around the summit and native wild cherry blossoms bloom in full glory, making the area even more vibrant. The floral scenery created by the cherry blossoms at their peak is breathtaking, making it a perfect destination for a spring outing.
A hiking course to the summit is maintained and can be climbed even with light gear, and there is also a spacious parking lot near the top, making it easy to get there by rental car or taxi.
