One of Fukushima Prefecture’s most iconic waterfalls, this famed cascade is also well known as a filming location for TV dramas and movies.

Approx. 10 meters high and Approx. 16 meters wide, the waterfall flows down the rock face like a single curtain. It consists of two falls: the powerful “Male Falls,” which sends up dramatic spray, and the quieter “Female Falls,” standing discreetly farther downstream. Both can be admired from the observation area, and you can also go down to the top of the falls and get right up close.

The surrounding area is covered by primeval forest centered on Japanese oak, with large trees such as sen trees, Japanese linden, itaya maple, and red pine still preserved in their natural state, and it has been selected as one of Fukushima’s 100 Best Green Landscapes. Along with the refreshing atmosphere of the fresh green season in summer, the vibrant autumn foliage season creates especially beautiful scenery, making it so popular that visitors come from across Japan.

Another appeal is that it can be reached in Approx. 25 minutes by taxi and on foot from Nakanosawa Onsen, one of the area’s leading sightseeing spots.
