Igaguri no Sato Nakatsugawa Marron Park
A seasonal autumn spot where you can fully enjoy Nakatsugawa’s specialty chestnuts through a chestnut-picking experience.
A tourist farm in Nakatsugawa City where you can feel the arrival of autumn. Igaguri no Sato Nakatsugawa Marron Park features a vast, nature-rich site with around 20 varieties and about 1,600 chestnut trees, from early-, mid-, and late-season types such as Tanzawa, Rihei, and Tsukuba. Each year, visitors can enjoy chestnut-picking from early September to early October.
In the park, you can pick popular chestnut varieties in recent years such as Porotan and Rihei. The chestnuts you pick are sold by weight, and you can take home as many as you collect. Searching for chestnuts scattered across the ground is an experience that both children and adults can get absorbed in.
When chestnuts ripen, their burrs naturally split open, and the nuts that fall to the ground are ready to eat. Knocking them down from the trees is prohibited, and picking up fallen chestnuts is the proper way to harvest them. As this is a working farm, comfortable walking shoes such as sneakers are recommended. When handling the burrs, it’s best to use the tongs available to borrow.
The reception desk lends out tools for the experience, and if reservations are available, it’s also a great stop for families and group travelers.
