Mimatsu

A Japanese-style ryokan in Awara Onsen, the hidden retreat of Kansai.

Last update :

A ryokan in Awara Onsen, one of Fukui Prefecture’s leading hot spring areas. Opened in 1883, Awara Onsen is known for its 74 hot spring sources, and because each property has its own source, the water quality differs from inn to inn.

There are two large public baths fed by the ryokan’s own hot spring source, and they are available on a rotating schedule for men and women. The dome-shaped “Taiyoden,” as its name suggests, has an open, airy atmosphere filled with sunlight. It also has a scenic open-air bath with a rustic feel, where guests can enjoy a soak while feeling the breeze. “Meigetsuden,” themed around the moon, features a distinctive bath shaped like a large moon. A shampoo bar service is also available.

A wide range of guest rooms is available, including Japanese-style rooms, Western-style rooms, Japanese-modern rooms with a Japanese design aesthetic, single rooms ideal for business travelers, and connecting rooms that can be used as two adjoining rooms. In the 36 guest rooms with open-air baths, one of the largest selections in Hokuriku, you can enjoy a private hot spring experience.

Meals mainly feature kaiseki cuisine made with Fukui ingredients such as Echizen crab and Wakasa beef. With seasonal flavors throughout, guests can fully enjoy the bounty of Hokuriku.
