Hosshin Park

A satoyama park loved by feudal lords and literary figures, known for its beautiful cherry blossoms and autumn leaves.

A peaceful park in Kurume City, Fukuoka Prefecture, wrapped in colorful nature and quiet serenity. In spring, Approx. 170 cherry trees burst into bloom all at once, creating a spectacular scene that seems to fill the valley with flowers. This historic spot is said to have once been enjoyed for cherry blossom viewing by successive lords of the Kurume Domain, and it remains a beloved cherry blossom destination today. The park is also home to a stone monument inscribed with a haiku by literary great Natsume Soseki, giving the area a sense of history and literature.

In summer, the gentle murmur of the Hosshin River flowing through the valley brings a refreshing feel, and it is pleasant simply to sit in the shade and gaze at the greenery. In autumn, Momiji Valley turns shades of red and orange, and the fallen leaves spread across the ground seem to tell of the deepening season. One of the park’s biggest charms is the way its natural scenery shows a different face with every visit.

Because it was originally developed as a campground, the old cooking area, washing area, and stoves still remain, and visitors can enjoy barbecues and picnics. With a grassy open space and groves of trees where you can relax freely, it is also perfect for a day out with family or friends. Though it is tucked away from town, this park is full of satoyama charm, where you can take a leisurely walk, connect with nature, and simply let yourself drift into a slower pace of time.
