Supervised by :  Tosashimizu City

A massive cave arch on the coastline of Cape Ashizuri in Tosashimizu, Kochi Prefecture. Formed over many years by erosion from the rough waves of the Pacific Ocean, it measures Approx. 16 meters high, Approx. 17 meters wide, and Approx. 15 meters deep. It is considered one of the largest granite sea cave arches in Japan.

A walking path leads down to the water’s edge, making it a major draw that you can observe this impressive formation up close. The rock surface of the cave arch, carved away by the waves, is rugged, letting you strongly feel the power of nature. The appearance of the arch changes depending on the tide and the angle of the light, so one of the pleasures of visiting is seeing its different faces depending on the timing and season.

There are also viewpoints nearby where you can look down on the arch, as well as spots by the footbath facility where you can take in sweeping views of both the ocean and the arch, making them a good option for anyone uneasy about walking the path. Some parts of the path are uneven, so be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes.
