Kirosan Observatory Park

This park sits atop 988-foot Mt. Kirosan at the southern tip of Oshima, the gateway to Shikoku on the Shimanami Kaido connecting Honshu and Shikoku. Located within Setonaikai National Park, it is known as one of the Shimanami Kaido's premier viewpoints.

From the observation deck, visitors can take in the entire Kurushima Kaikyo Bridge, the islands of the Seto Inland Sea, and downtown Imabari. The dynamic scenery includes ships passing through the Kurushima Strait and its powerful currents, ranked among Japan's three strongest tidal currents. On clear days, Mt. Ishizuchi, the highest peak in western Japan, may also be visible.

Designed by architect Kengo Kuma, the observation facility features a panoramic observation bridge built to blend into the surrounding terrain. Its design makes the expansive views of the sea and bridge even more striking, earning it particular popularity among architecture enthusiasts. In addition to refreshing daytime views, the sea and sky turn crimson at sunset, creating scenery that changes by the moment. At night, the illuminated Kurushima Kaikyo Bridge and the lights of downtown Imabari create an enchanting sight unlike the daytime view.
