Visit in the fall to enjoy the red maple leaves and golden ginkgo trees. It's especially pleasant to stroll through the park. If you're lucky, you may also come across live street performances, adding a bit more excitement and energy to the park.

Besides the natural scenery, Ueno Park also has attractions such as art museums and a zoo, so you can spend an entire day exploring at a leisurely pace.

Ueno Park is one of Tokyo’s best-known cherry blossom spots, but I didn’t realize until I got there just how lively the hanami atmosphere would be.

Under the fully blooming cherry trees, people were everywhere—sitting on the ground, drinking, and hanging out. Around us were the sounds of food stalls and stage performances, and it honestly felt like a festival. It really showed me how passionate Japanese people are about cherry blossom viewing.

If you’re coming to Tokyo for cherry blossoms with a group of friends and want to drink, celebrate, and experience the energetic hanami culture, this would definitely be my top pick.

There’s no need to rush when you visit Ueno Park. Just wandering around is enough to feel a laid-back atmosphere that’s rare in Tokyo. Whether you want to enjoy the scenery, take photos, or find a bench and rest, Ueno Park is a great place to spend some time.

The park is beautiful in June, especially the hydrangeas.

It’s amazing that a city can still hold an environment this rich in nature. Even though Shinobazu Pond doesn’t have much greenery in winter, it has a different kind of beauty—nature’s own lively buzz.

In June 2025, my husband and I visited Ueno Onshi Park and really loved the natural vibe. It was a Monday when the museums were closed, so there weren’t many visitors.

That day we had blue skies and fluffy clouds, and the lotus flowers were just about to bloom. We also stopped by the Starbucks there to try some desserts and drinks. It was a relaxing, easygoing day.

Cherry blossom viewing here in spring is absolutely gorgeous. It's definitely one of the most popular spots for sakura in Tokyo.

It was cloudy, so the cherry blossoms didn't really pop—kind of a letdown! I'd love to come back on a sunny day.

Since it was a weekday, there weren't many people doing hanami, so it was easy to take photos. That was a plus!
