Overall, I actually don't know what this place is for. It seemed like it wasn't open that day.
I was simply drawn to the building. I thought a place this distinctive had to be featured here, and sure enough, it was〜
I think it's quite a unique building. If you pass by, you'll definitely look at it a few times. 99% head-turn rate.

While strolling around Mojiko, I was drawn to this Western-style building with its exotic atmosphere. Since it was still early, I decided to buy a ticket and take a look inside. The Former Moji Mitsui Club was built in 1921 as a social club where Mitsui Bussan could entertain company guests and provide accommodations. It also bears witness to Mojiko’s thriving trade during that era. Inside, the refined wooden structure, ornate fireplaces, and vintage furnishings make you feel as though you’ve traveled back in time to experience the elegance of a century ago. The biggest surprise was learning that Einstein and his wife stayed here for five days during their trip to Japan in 1922! Their room from that time has been specially recreated on the second floor, along with related commemorative exhibits. The building also introduces Fumiko Hayashi, a writer from Moji. I had only gone in on a whim because the exterior caught my eye, but I unexpectedly learned so many historical stories, adding an extra discovery to my stroll around Mojiko.

When visiting Mojiko, don’t miss this beautiful Western-style building full of historic charm! The Former Moji Mitsui Club blends retro and modern architectural styles, making you feel as if you’ve stepped into the elegance of a bygone era. Every corner has a charming nostalgic atmosphere, and whether you’re admiring the architecture or taking photos, it’s well worth a visit.
There’s also a restaurant inside where you can sit down and enjoy Mojiko’s famous baked curry, as well as local fugu dishes. Although the food isn’t exactly cheap, dining in a historic Western-style building and enjoying both the food and the unique charm of the retro setting is still highly recommended! If you’re taking a walk around Mojiko, consider stopping by to experience a different kind of nostalgia!

While strolling around Mojiko, I was unexpectedly drawn to this century-old Western-style building. The Former Moji Mitsui Club was built in 1921, and the entire building has a European feel. The dark wood paired with white window frames gives it an elegant look, and it looks great in every photo. It used to be a place where Mitsui Bussan entertained guests, and even Einstein stayed here when he visited Japan!
What I like most is that this old building doesn't feel overly commercial and just stands quietly on a street corner. Taking your time to walk around and look at it, it has more character than you'd expect. When you visit Mojiko, don't just focus on taking pictures of the harbor—this building is also worth stopping by. -
